We have both agreed that if we are going to have rain on our trip we would rather have it now than when we were hiking through the mountains. Luckily, we both brought rain coats so it hasn’t been too terrible, but it’s been very cold!
Now that we have an apartment we are able to make our own breakfast. I used the small two burner stove to make Jacob some eggs and I had cereal. We stocked up on some groceries from a little supermarket down the street.
After breakfast we were out the door to go check out the sights of Munich that we missed when we were here almost three weeks ago. We bought a three-day subway pass and got on the train. After two short stops we were in Marienplatz which is basically the Munich city center. Right next to the station is the Neues Rathaus.
This building is famous for the Rathaus-Glockenspiel. Jacob said this was something he had learned about in high school and thought he would never see it. At 11 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. the Glockenspiel chimes and 32 life-size figurines dance about. People gathered all around us just a few minutes before noon to watch the show too. It was pretty amazing.
After that we walked around and checked out the other cool sights around us including Marienhof, Altes Rathaus, St. Peters Church and Frauenkirche.

We also stumbled upon this weird Michael Jackson Memorial.

At this point we were pretty much soaked through from the rain and it was time to return to the apartment to warm up and grab some lunch. On the way back we grabbed a couple pretzels and apple turnovers. Yum! When we got back to the apartment I made us some hot cocoa to enjoy with our snacks.
We watched a couple episodes of John Oliver to get caught up on happenings in America and then planned our afternoon.
We decided to explore our neighborhood a bit more. We are in the Isarvorstadt area. There is a beautiful river nearby with a park running along it. Since we had to put more change in the meter for parking we took a stroll through the park and fed the meter.
We saw lots of very cute dogs running around the park.
We then strolled over to the Burrito Company to try out some German Mexican food. This place was pretty cool. Almost everything was in English and the cashier spoke excellent English too. Jacob ordered a beef burrito and I got a chicken burrito. They use refried-kidney beans here, which is different, but still tasted very good!
We are back chillaxing at our apartment, calling it a day. Tomorrow we are off to see the Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castles in the morning. Then we are hoping to turn in our car and take the train back to our apartment. Saturday is our last full day in Munich and then flying out Sunday. If you want us to bring anything back, get your orders in now!
