Jacob has been noticing lots of Swiss flags all over the place. He said he didn’t notice them last time we were here. Well turns out, today is Swiss National Day! And we may even be treated with a fireworks show this evening.
Today we walked ten miles.
We were trying to decide on some less strenuous activities. So we decided we’d take the Eiger Express cable car. This is a new cable car that they have built and opened in 2020. It is another route to get to the train to take you to Jungfraujoch, which is called “top of Europe.” We did that last time. It is over 11,000 feet up and cold. We didn’t feel like we needed to do that again.
Instead, after riding the cable car up, we decided we would follow a trail to hike back down into town. As we were riding along in this cable car that took 15 minutes to reach its destination. I murmured that I wasn’t sure this hike was really six miles…
Our cable car dropped us off at the Eiger Glacier and we took in the amazing views. We were at about 7,600 feet.
From here people get on a train to take them to Jungfrau or they walk on the many hiking trails around.

We started our descent down the mountain. We made sure to put on our sunscreen and I applied bug repellent too. (I still got bit twice).
We were greeted with many beautiful sights and many happy cows.

We meandered our way down and passed through Kleine Scheidegg. This is where we caught the train in 2016 when we went up to Jungfrau before. We used the facilities there and continued on our journey.
A few hours in, we were both feeling the heat and the wear on our legs. Once we got closer to town we spotted a bus stop and decided to see if that bus would stop by our apartment. Lucky for us, it was only 3 minutes away and the last stop was across from our apartment.
We hopped on the bus and rode it the rest of the way back. We stopped by the bakery and picked up a loaf of bread and some desserts which we enjoyed right away. Then we sat on the balcony of our apartment and enjoyed the views.
We are going to get some food out this evening and then settle in. We hope to have an early start to the morning tomorrow!
Until then!
