Greetings readers, not a lot to report today. This was our last full day in Maui (and Hawaii). Tomorrow we will leave here around 7:30 a.m. to return our car and catch our first flight to Honolulu. Then we will fly from Honolulu back to Everett. It will be a long day!
This morning we wanted to get in some beach time so we stopped by a coffee shop so I could grab a latte and then walked along the beach by our condo. We discussed the trip so far and our favorite parts. Jacob said his favorite part was being warm. I said I liked the boat trips, seeing the whales and turtles, and going out to eat. Jacob summarized that as that I liked everything. Pretty much.
We had wanted to drive the road to Hana but that part of the island has been getting all the rain for past two days. We were really fortunate that we really didn’t get much rain here except for overnight, when it was raining so hard it woke me up.
Today we decided to drive south to Wailea and walk along the Wailea Beach Path. We parked right next to the Four Seasons in a public parking lot. The first season of the HBO show, The White Lotus, was filmed at this hotel (feature photo). I enjoyed seeing the resort it was filmed at. Although in the show all of the guests are boated in to the remote resort, and well that’s just not the case here.
We continued along the path toward Turtle Town (my obvious destination). I did see one turtle swimming in the water. We also saw a few geckos. It was a nice walk on a pretty humid and warm day.

After our walk, we stopped at a cafe and I got a smoothie, then we returned to our AirBnB to start getting things in order for our departure tomorrow. We took a short break to head down to the beach one last time to watch the sunset. As we got settled, I said wouldn’t it be amazing if we saw whales jumping in the air? Minutes later a kid on the beach started yelling, “I see a whale. I see a whale!” And sure enough in the distance we saw not one, but two humpback whales leap from the water.
We continued to sit on the beach and watch the whales surface all over though we didn’t see any more jump from the water. We watched the sunset and then said “see you later beach!” and packed up our chairs to return to our AirBnB. We are just finishing up getting packed.
This trip has sailed by and we are already thinking about our next trip and returning to Hawaii so we can see more of the islands. This has been an amazing journey and while I’m sad vacation is over, I am looking forward being back home.
Until then!
