Day 1 or is it day 2?

Rainy at Oktoberfest

Well we made it! I’m not quite sure if I am coming or going or what. Gosh, I am tired.

This has been the longest day. We woke up around 7 a.m. at our hotel in Vancouver. Wandered downstairs for some breakfast snacks around 9 a.m. Killed some time. Checked out of the hotel at noon. Headed over to the airport, ate some Wendy’s, wasted away more time watching planes take off and land. Waited until 3 p.m. to check our one bag and then headed through security.

Security at the Vancouver airport was a breeze in comparison to security at US airports. Then we walked to our gate and waited some more until we began boarding at 6:30 p.m. Plane takes off, dinner, nap time, breakfast and then landing almost 10 hours later. Those were some very long 10 hours!

After we landed we had to locate our checked bag, go through customs and find the trains. It took us about an hour to get to our hotel from the airport. We freshened up and then were back out the door on our way to check out Oktoberfest in the rain.

We ate streusels, sausages and pretzels. We saw two very drunk men trying to help each other down the road. We saw one man leaning up again a post, nodding off as he was eating some food with another beer at his feet. One man was bloodied from falling on his face and the last man we saw was multi-tasking by peeing openly into the street while eating a dessert. We decided that was a pretty sufficient Oktoberfest experience.

Although I should mention that we also got to hear many drunken Germans singing Bon Jovi’s Livin on a Prayer. That was pretty great too.

We are finally back to our hotel after a very long day of traveling and are off to get some much needed sleep. Tomorrow, Salzburg and Vienna!
