We’ve had a very full day! Again, we woke up around 3 a.m. but were able to fall back asleep. We both got up out of bed at 6 a.m. I would have slept longer but I had a notification that one of our payments for a hotel was declined. This has happened twice now. We looked into adding travel alerts to our credit cards but they apparently don’t do that anymore, instead they want you to set up alerts to get notified of suspicious activity. This isn’t great for us when we have lots of random payments coming out for various things in multiple countries. However, after rattling off every expletive and then for some reason sensoring the “s” word, we got the payment to go through.
Yesterday we picked up supplies for breakfast so this morning I made us eggs and we ate yogurt and bread with jam. I also bought some instant coffee and it is not the best thing I’ve ever had but in a pinch will do! We unfortunately realized last night, after we had gone to the store, that we didn’t have any soap or shampoo so first thing this morning we walked to a market and picked those up along with a few other essentials we forgot to grab yesterday.
After we were showered, we were ready to tackle the town and were out the door by 9:30 a.m. We are in Bled, Slovenia right now and the big draw here is the lake. It is absolutely gorgeous and there are trails all over the place with great viewpoints or you can just walk around the lake.

We walked through the castle which has two beautiful courtyards, a chapel and a museum with history about the lake. After touring the castle, I had spotted a cafe and wanted to get a piece of the famous Lake Bled Cream Cake called kremna rezina. The staff at our apartment had recommended we try a slice, they said it was delicious and they were not exaggerating!

The cake is a custard and chantilly cream cake dessert, served cold. Which was perfect since it was already quite hot outside! After cake time, we headed down a trail that would take us to another part of the lake. We followed a pathway that ran along the lake. There were several swimming spots and different cafes and restaurants along the way. We stopped by one of these cafes and I ordered a sausage. The sausage ended up being more like a sandwich with three small sausages, lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup and mustard. It was so good and exactly what I needed to keep going!
From there we were headed toward a hike up to Mala Osojnica for a viewpoint. Jacob had read this would be about a 30-minute hike, unfortunately, he did not know how steep it would be! The terrain was rocky in some parts and full of large roots in others. A few sections had steel ropes anchored to the hillsides for you to use to walk along narrow parts of the trail. At one point, there was an extremely steep staircase that almost ended up being like a ladder.
We were running out of water and sweating bullets but we made it to the top. And the views were worth it!

We hung out at the viewpoint for a little bit. Ate some snacks and then walked down the way we came up. From there it was a short walk to a market where we picked up more water. Between the hike up to the castle and the viewpoint my watch tells me I’ve climbed 206 flights of stairs, and boy, does it feel like it! My legs are jelly right now.
After our all of that walking we headed back to the apartment to rest for a bit and to shower again. I’m glad we packed so many clothes. Although, I am not complaining! We are having beautiful weather and it finally really feels like summer.
We spent a good chunk of the afternoon resting in our apartment. I made spaghetti for dinner, which was much needed after our hikes. I read my book for a little bit and then around 7 p.m. we headed down to an ice cream shop that was just around the corner. Jacob got two scoops of strawberry ice cream and I had pistachio and nutella. It was so yummy!
We’re back at the apartment now waiting until we can open the windows to get some cool air in here. Overall, the apartment keeps pretty cool but it gets a little muggy in the evening.
Tomorrow we may take a boat ride to the church in the middle of the lake. It will be a nice, relaxing day.
Until then!
