Top of Adventure

We had a slow start to the morning. Someone woke up at 5:15 a.m. and watched the Sounders game then fell asleep on the couch.

Jacob said he watched the sun rise over the majestic beauty of the mountains while I was still snoring. He said the sky was clear and he could see the lights from hikers that were climbing to the top of Eiger mountain. He said it was so great, he now wants me to get up at 5 a.m. tomorrow to join him. We’ll see…

We had breakfast and then got out the door by 9:30 a.m. Luckily, the cable car we wanted to catch was only a short walk from our apartment.

Today we ventured up to First, which they have coined the Top of Adventure. They call Jungfraujoch the Top of Europe! Top, top, top!

Our ride to First was in a gondola style cable car that fit six people. It took 25 minutes to get to the top. I didn’t realize we’d be on the cable car so long, but it was a smooth and beautiful ride.

Once we hopped off, we walked over to the Cliff Walk. This walkway along the rockface has a suspension bridge and a viewing platform that juts out 45 meters from the cliff.

I’m in the middle there!

From here we were headed off on a hike to Lake Bachalpsee. This takes about an hour there and an hour back. The trail was mostly flat with only a few inclines. Our legs are quite sore after weeks of hiking so we wanted to take it easy. In total we walked about 7 miles today.

Along the hike there were beautiful mountain views and cows all over the place, some napping and some eating. There were many paragliders in the distance soaring through the sky.

There was a steady stream of people walking along the trail to the lakes.

Once we arrived at the lakes, we found a nice bench to sit on and enjoyed our snacks.

It was a beautiful hike! Once we were done taking in the views we made our way back to the cable car and caught one on the ride down. We were excited to have the gondola all to ourselves for the 25 minute ride. I was excited knowing our apartment was nearby and we wouldn’t need to travel 2 hours to get back.

Once down we stopped by the bakery and picked up two different slices of cake that we had earned from our adventures. We are settled in at the apartment now. We need to start gathering our things to prepare to checkout tomorrow morning.

So far this journey we have walked over 330,000 steps. Jacob calculated that buying our regional travel passes has saved us over $100. Go us!

Tomorrow we are heading to Munich, Germany. We will be there two nights and then we take a train to Frankfurt to catch our flight home on Saturday.

Until then!
